Aquaponics in our son’s home in Dona Paula Goa

Neeno got frequent chest infections after her treatment for leukemia finished in 2009 .

The doctors in Delhi advised us to move out of Delhi in winter months during high pollution levels. Our son then bought a home in Goa in 2013 and suggested we live there .

Goa had little organic food in 2013 , when we went to stay in our son’s home in Dona Paula,

So we decided to convert the house into an urban aquaponic farm to provide organic vegetables , fruit and fish for our home. We set up 3 fish tanks along the side and at the back of the house, which grow 120 kg of fresh water fish, Seabass and Carp, a year. The water from the fish tanks is recycled to feed 5000 plants of vegetables, herbs and fruits in greenhouses around the home.

The second floor rooftop had a sloping tiled roof, which we leveled and set up as a greenhouse growing 3000 plants of vegetables and herbs, watered by the fish tanks on the ground floor

Along the walls of the house on the first floor and the second floor, we set up 4 ft wide platforms along the walls, which grow 50 fruit trees in containers and also vegetables in crates, all watered by aquaponic water from the fish tanks.

Above this on the area next to the water tank on the roof top, we set up a platform 10 ft wide and 20 ft long which grows lemon trees in drums watered by aquaponic water from the fish tanks on the ground floor

Over the water tank on the 2nd floor rooftop, we set up a 3 Kw Agrivoltaic Bifacial solar panel system that provides power to the aquaponics unit around the home , powers the water pump fills the overhead tank and powers the greenhouse on the 2nd floor .
